Lovell Cattle Company sells Wye-based Angus cattle that are born on the farm and are 100% grassfed from start to finish. They are rotationally grazed on organic pastures comprised of mainly tall fescue, perennial rye grass, white clover, red clover and native grasses. They are fed an organic mineral that is mixed specifically for our herd and the cattle are not given growth hormones. Because we only sell beef from cattle that were born and raised on our farm, our beef is absolutely traceable. Each cut is labeled and can be traced back to a single animal. It is our collective mission to bring superior grassfed beef to everyone in the marketplace who is hungry for a more delicious and healthy way of life.
Our beef is sold either by the whole or the half, and the price is $2 per pound live weight. If you desire a smaller amount, you can make arrangements and share with friends. We call it “cow pooling.”
When you purchase our beef, we can recommend local processors and who will work with you to get the custom cuts of beef you prefer. For example, you may want more hamburger and less roast meat. A family of four will get between 100 and 130 meals of beef from a side.
Wagners Meats in Mount Airy, Maryland and Smuckers Meats in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania can provide processing, vacuum packing and labeling and both are USDA approved.
One side of beef (from a 1000-1200 lb. live animal) will typically yield:
- 14 T-bone steaks (cut 3/4″ thick)
- 14 rib steaks (3/4″)
- 8 sirloin steaks (3/4″)
- 8 round steaks (3/4″)
- 2 sirloin tip roasts (3 lbs.)
- 6 chuck roasts (4 lbs.)
- 4 arm roasts (3 lbs.)
- 2 rump roasts (3 lbs.)
- 8 packages stew beef (1 lb.)
4 packages short ribs (1.5 lbs.)- 4 packages soup bones (1.5 lbs.)
- 80-100 lbs. ground beef
(variety meats, if desired, such as heart, liver, tongue and oxtail)
